A new chapter for Visual Velocity
It's "moving" day...
Hello, visual thinkers! Today's email represents a new chapter in the story of Visual Velocity - one that I hope will serve you better!
For the last 17 years, I have published a weekly newsletter every Sunday. In its current incarnation, it contains a feature article, three news items about visual thinking tools, an Insider Resource of the week and a highlighted Twitter post. That's a lot for you to read!
Sending a weekly newsletter thousands of readers is costly. So I've been on the lookout for a better solution, ideally one that doesn't cost as much but offers some new functionality that will enhance your experience as a reader of the resources I publish online.
I recently discovered it in the form of an up-and-coming platform called Substack. It combines multiple forms of communication into a single, well designed platform that includes an email newsletter, social-like posts called "Notes," a community chat function and much more.
I've decided to move all of my communication over to Substack. How will it change your experience of Visual Velocity?
Weekly Sunday Newsletter: It will be limited to a single teaser that links to a resource on the Visual Velocity blog, as usual, plus any special announcements. It will be a quicker read for those of you who have limited time to skim your email.
Visual Thinking Digest: These short news items about new and improved thinking tools and interesting articles about visual thinking will move to notes and will be distributed throughout the week.
Insider Resource of the Week: This will also be distributed via Notes once a week.
Notable Tweet: As Twitter diminishes an importance as a social media platform, I'm thinking that this will go away. In its place, I will periodically share resources of interest that I come across during my online explorations in Notes.
A Note About Notes: Each individual communication will be bite-sized and easy for you to consume. But it’s important to understand that unlike the newsletter, Notes will NOT be emailed to you. In order to see them, you must subscribe to Visual Velocity on the Substack app or view them via your web browser.
The Future is All About Community: Substack is built with community in mind. This platform makes it easy to cross-post others' valuable content, comment on posts and Notes and an online chat function that can be used for group discussions.
I need to learn more about these features before I turn them on. But it's exciting to know that Substack is a vibrant, growing platform with a mission that is aligned with mine. My goal is to create a place where all of us can consume and contribute to a vibrant visual thinking community (not just a one-way broadcast, which is what it has been for many years).
I look forward to the next step in our journey together. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me via the form on the Visual Velocity blog.
Best Regards,
Chuck Frey
